Pit bulls attack cat

http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100913/CGY_dogs_cat100913/20100913/?hub=CalgaryHome

Two pit bulls with "previous infractions" attacked a leashed cat in Calgary yesterday.  The cat was leashed because Calgary's bylaws require cats to remain on their own property and it is my understanding that the cat bylaw in Calgary is strictly enforced.  The loose, attacking pit bull bylaw looks to maybe have a little more wiggle room?

I predict they'll be released to attack another cat, maybe even a toddler.

  1. A phrase that makes me crazy is "charges are being considered against the owner of the dogs." The dogs were loose, a violation of law. The dogs have a history of aggression. The cat was leashed and on the property of it's owner when it was attacked. Charges should be automatic here.

  2. Do you have any info on the condition of the cat, did it survive? And any info on the "previous infractions"? As I understand there are no laws regarding fencing, etc. so does this mean dogs are allowed to run around? How about some posting regarding the laws in Calgary regarding tethering, fencing, etc.

  3. Another thing, as you may or may not know, many of the breeder clubs are bringing in Bill Bruce to explain his program to officials here. How about some posts on his "program". It's been pretty hard to get information regarding negative aspects of his "program".

  4. wiggle room for wiggle butts.

i've come to expect our national, provincial, and municipal governments to make no sense at all, except to placate whatever politically correct groups at present.

  5. i am sick to death of pit nutters minimizing animal aggression in their freaks of nature canines. it's no big deal to them when their frankenmaulers attack normal animals but the second their ugly mutants are killed for acting on their biological impulses like in DC, suddenly "it's tragic".

  6. Indeed. There is something really, really wrong with all these 'humane' societies and 'dog lovers' who discount the savage and suffering loss of other animal life (which routinely occurs at the jaws of these mutant type dogs), their only concern being to keep the mutant alive (poor thing) to savagely kill yet another animal.

They need to stop calling themselves 'humane' societies and 'dog lovers', and start calling themselves consumer advocates who don't care how many non-pit-bull animals die horrible deaths.

    Greta Franklin, are you listening?

  7. A Pit bull ban is the only answer in keeping these killing machines out of the hands of the negligent and immature.Pit Bull Ban's in Ontario and Winnipeg our working incredibly well and Pit Bull atrocities in these areas have virtually been eliminated.Pit Bull Ban's are working and one will work here too.

  8. What is with you guys? There are dozens of attacks routinely reported a year and only a minimal portion of them are Pit Bulls! Its one of those things that once you focus on it it's all you notice. Do you not care about the multiple huskies that kill other animals? Or the Mastiffs that bite people? What about the crazy Jack Russells? C'mon people! Pull your head out and open your eyes! I am sick of this. You live in a society where these things are going to happen. If you want to domesticate an animal as a pet, you can expect some bite back sometimes. If you want to fight against murders look at the human horrors we have in society. And the "charges are being considered" it's called FOIP and confidentiality. They can't come out and report what is being charged and plead etc... Do your research before you run your mouth. It makes me absolutely sick seeing this trash on here.

  9. what is it with us pit haters? well for one thing most of us have had some kind of bad experience with this kind of dog. i certainly have had multiple incidents with pitbulls and know others who have had attacks too. i would say the long term chances of me having more pitbull incidents are pretty good or should i say bad. i just would prefer to not have to do what i will probably have to do. if its another type of dog ,and thats a possibility too, i dont think this will be anything like as bad. judge me if you like and know i am doing same for you and your choice of dog.

  10. Petey of the Little Rascals was a Pit Bull. Helen Keller owned a Pit Bull.

    Don't Believe the "Bull"!

Pit Bulls are not an aggressive breed of dog.
*According to the American Temperament Testing Association, APBTs have an 85.3% passing rate, compared to a passing rate of 81.9% for all breeds on average. *In the test a dog is placed in a series of confrontational situations. The first sign of aggression or panic is a failure of the test.
*see :http://www.dontbullymybreed.org/StopCourtRuling.php to view an article on the new Alabama Supreme Court's ruling that there is no genetic evidence that one breed of dog is more dangerous than another.
